Geometric and numerical modeling of brain cells synaptic activity


Project summary

Theme of this problem is a continuation of the Neocortex project but it is a separate area for research. The project is working with the data of electron microscopy represented as a sequence of grayscale images-layers of equal width and height. According to these data is required to carry out 3D-reconstruction (to build a geometric model) are presented on the brain cells (neurons and astrocytes) as well as to simulate the dynamics of change in the status of each individual cell and the entire neural network as a whole (to learn how to calculate the membrane potential, short-term and long-term synaptic plasticity of the network at a certain time interval). As a neural network model used a directed graph whose vertices are neurons and astrocytes and edges are synaptic connections between them. The principal difficulty of the problem lies in the fact that it's necessary to classify cells and other features as well as the linkages between them for building the graph model of the neural network formed by cells of the brain.
